The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
You're invited. The only question is how you'll respond. In Matthew 22:1-14, Jesus tells the story of a king who prepares a wedding banquet for his son and sends servant after servant to bring people in — even after being refused, ignored, and mistreated. It's a parable about God the Father (the King), Jesus (the son), and the Kingdom of God (the banquet). And it closes out our series with one of the most direct pictures in Scripture of who God is, how we respond to Him, and what He actually requires of us. Pastor Dustin walks through three truths from this parable: The King Keeps Inviting God doesn't send one invitation and walk away. He keeps pursuing us — often in ways we don't expect: through people, through pain, through success, through conviction, and even through our own questions. The King Deserves a Response The parable shows three ways people respond to God's invitation: some reject Him outright, some neglect Him by getting distracted with ordinary life (Hebrews 2:3), and some try to approach Him on their own terms. As Pastor Dustin puts it, "The enemy doesn't always tempt us with evil. Sometimes he distracts us with ordinary life." The King Provides What He Requires The banquet has a dress code, and none of us can meet it on our own (Romans 3:10, 23; Isaiah 64:6). But God doesn't just demand righteousness — He supplies it. Through Christ, we're clothed in a righteousness that isn't our own (2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:27). "The gospel is not God pretending we are righteous. It is God giving us the righteousness of His Son." Religion says, "Become worthy." Jesus says, "Receive what I have done."
